DREAM BIG!

To Dream Big is to break free from conventional thinking, to envision your life transformed in pursuit of your aspirations. When we change the way we think about things, the things we think about change. I firmly believe that there’s no better moment than the present to embark on a change in mindset, a paradigm shift, which is a prerequisite for actualizing your dreams. One little poem forever changed my thinking.

I can count on one hand how many times I’ve read something that stopped me in my tracks…words that bypassed my brain and went straight to the heart. This was the case with a sweet little book I read years ago called “The Dash” by Linda Ellis. Here is an excerpt:

“The Dash” by Linda Ellis

“I read of a man who stood to speak at the funeral of a friend. He referred to the dates on her tombstone. From the beginning…..to the end. He noted that first came the date of her birth and spoke of the following dates with tears. but he said what mattered most of all… was the dash between those years.

For that dash represent all the time that she spent alive on earth and now only those who loved her know what that little line is worth. For it matters not how much we own, the cars…the house…the cash… What matters is how we live and love and how we spend our dash.”

So What has this to do with Dream Big?

I believe we have a gloriously beautiful future that will emerge in the coming years. To bring forth this magnificent future, it’s essential to nurture it within our hearts. Our “Dash” represents a fleeting moment in time, and how we utilize it is within our control. Through our choices and attitudes, we wield the power to impact lives positively or negatively each day.

George Washington Carver said, “How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because someday in your life you will have been all of these.”

Attitude of Gratitude – Dream Big

At least 15 years ago, I was facilitating a seminar in Dallas Texas at a Marriott, Hotel. I was setting up for the seminar and realized they had forgotten to provide the masking tape and easel. There was an employee (Gregg) changing a light bulb outside the room. I peaked out and he asked if there were something I needed. I told him my dilemma. “No problem, Mam” Gregg said, and dropped what he was doing and went off to find what I needed. All these years later I remember him like it was yesterday. He could have said not my job, man and sent me elsewhere. Instead, he made my workshop a success. But more importantly, with a smile on his face, he made me feel like I mattered.

How often are we presented with the chance to achieve greatness through simple acts of kindness? Within your “Dash,” never overlook the profound impact of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, or an honest compliment. Each possesses the potential to transform a life for the better.

So dream big and pay it forward! Emerson said it best, “To share often and much…to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived; this is to have succeeded.”
