“The Push”

The push was the greatest gift she had to offer. It was the supreme act of love.

An excerpt from “Even Eagles Need a Push” by David McNally:

The Eagle gently coaxed her offspring toward the edge of the nest. Her heart quivered with conflicting emotions as she felt their resistance to her persistent nudging. “Why does the thrill of soaring have to begin with the fear of falling?” she thought. This ageless question was still unanswered for her.

The Push

As in the tradition of the species, her nest was located high upon the shelf of a sheer rock face. Below there was nothing but air to support the wings of each child. “Is it possible that this time it will not work?” she thought. Despite her fears the eagle knew it was time. Her parental mission was all but complete. There remained one final task … the push.

The eagle drew courage from an innate wisdom. Until her children discovered their wings, their was no purpose for their lives. Until they learned to soar, they would fail to understand the privilege it was to have been born an eagle. The push was the greatest gift she had to offer. It was her supreme act of love.

And so, one by one, she pushed them and … THEY FLEW.

LEARNING TO SOAR IN A CHANGING WORLD

Here are some of my takeaways from “Even Eagles Need A Push.” I hope it inspires you to make a difference in a life.

The Push … Sometimes, we all need it; sometimes, we need to give it. It can be the greatest gift you ever give. Moreover, it will change a life forever. Encouragement can come in many forms. Sometimes it is the courageous, honest words from a friend or loved one that helps us make a course correction from self-defeating and limiting behavior. In addition, when you make others feel good about themselves, you’ll feel good too. Norman Vincent Peale said, “Build others up because there are too many people in the demolition business.”

Cultivating new behaviors: You are responsible for making the effort, nothing more. Furthermore, don’t confuse effort with outcome. There are those days when it is hard to put one foot in front of the other. However, when you do and get up and get going, you feel accomplished. The measure of success is the ability to overcome adversity. But it is often the belief of others that gives us the courage to try. We create champions from those who continue to persevere. Moreover, it is about making the most of the minutes you are given. Show up and take action.

The Push

The Daffodil Principle: The scene before us was nothing short of breathtaking. It appeared as though a colossal vat of gold had been poured over the mountain crests and slopes, creating a mesmerizing spectacle. Moreover, the flowers were meticulously arranged in majestic patterns, with swathes of deep orange, white, lemon yellow, pink, and butter yellow adorning the landscape. Stretching across five acres, the flowers flowed like a river, each hue adding its own unique charm to the vista.

The Push

Remarkably, this entire spectacle was the work of just one woman, the owner of the property. Amidst all the splendor, her home stood small and modest. In the front of the house was a poster. “Answers to the questions I Know You are Asking.” 1. “50,000 bulbs” 2. “One at a time, by one woman, two hands, two feet and very little brain.” 3. “Began in 1958.” That’s it – “The Daffodil Principle” – learning to move toward our goals and desires one step at a time, often just one baby step at a time and learning to love the doing.

One by one she pushed them and they flew”
